Executive Director/Therapist
Tyler graduated from the University of Montana with a B.A. in Psychology. He has worked with adolescents and their families in a variety of settings for the past ten years. After several years working with the developmentally disabled in Montana, Tyler became a field instructor for SUWS youth and adolescent programs in Idaho where he met his future wife, and co-founder of True North, Madhurii Barefoot. He moved to North Carolina in 2000 to help develop SUWS of the Carolinas. Ty went on to earn a master’s degree in clinical social work from Portland State University. After graduate school he returned to SUWS in Idaho as a field supervisor. In 2004, Ty and Mod moved to Vermont and co-founded True North combining their love of the New England landscape with their passion for working with adolescents in a wilderness environment. Ty is an avid fly-fisherman and enjoys traveling and backpacking. He is certified in CPI, WFR, and CPR.
