Assistant Field Director
Originally from New York, Deirdre earned her Bachelors degree from the University of Buffalo with a major in Cultural Anthropology and a minor in Latino studies. She spent her post-grad year pursuing archaeology as a field technician. It quickly became apparent that she was well suited to working outdoors, and her desire for more of an interactive human connection led her to enter the field of wilderness therapy. Deirdre began as a field instructor and mentor for a therapeutic wilderness program in Southwest Utah where she worked in the backcountry for nearly three years.
During this time, Deirdre took full advantage of the guide lifestyle, traveling often and exploring the canyons of the southwest during her free time. While she remains passionate about working closely with adolescents and young adults, Deirdre was ready to broaden her impact in a more versatile role.
In her position as True North’s Assistant Field Director, she maintains her positive influence on our students while also working closely with the field guides in a training and development capacity. She believes strongly in the potential for growth and change in the wilderness, and is enthusiastic in being a part of the development that we see in students at True North. In her free time Deirdre enjoys reading, yoga, canyoneering, and rock climbing.
